Sand Bags

Reported via mobile in the Poor repairs (reinstatement) category anonymously at 15:03, Tuesday 5 May 2026

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9403074.

Hi there, around four weeks ago a wide load was escorted from Sharpness Docks, prior to this, highways put out sand bags on all the raised traffic islands to enable the wide load to travel over the top of the traffic islands without issue. Highways have left all the sand bags in place, they are now all torn and the plastic bags will, in time, blow away and into the verges and hedges and pollute the countryside with plastic. Although the sand bags initially had a purpose, they don’t anymore, so they are littering the carriageway and when they blow away they’ll be littering the countryside. Please can highways retrace their steps and collect all the sand bags, or if they are split, leave the sand and take the bags. The traffic islands are all along the route from sharpness to theA38. It’s also unsightly.
