Old Gloucester Road (B4634), at what3words location ///deny.secret.posed
There is persistent and worsening flooding at this location which creates a serious hazard for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
This is a 50 mph road with blind bends. During and after rainfall, standing water covers a long stretch of carriageway and completely submerges the narrow footpath in places, forcing pedestrians into the live traffic lane. This route is used to reach nearby bus stops and the main cycle route.
Drivers frequently move into the centre of the road to avoid the deepest water, which is extremely dangerous given the restricted visibility. Cyclists are particularly at risk. Debris and damaged car parts have been left at the roadside, indicating vehicles are striking submerged defects or suffering water-related damage.
Floodwater appears to be emerging from one roadside drain rather than flowing into it. A nearby brook is not full when this occurs, suggesting that the drainage system between the road and the brook may be blocked, collapsed or inadequate.
The worst areas remain flooded long after rainfall has stopped.
This has been a longstanding issue for several years and appears to be getting worse each winter rather than improving.
Please urgently investigate and resolve the drainage failure at this location.

Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.
We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.
Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.
Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance
If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide
If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.
We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
