Rain water no longer draining on road
Reported via mobile in the No rain in 24 hours - water has increased or remained the same category anonymously at 11:39, Thursday 5 February 2026
Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8844426.
Rain water has regularly pooled on the main road directly next to the grass strip outside Nettlestead Court, Burford Road but has always cleared on dry days. A couple of years ago I requested a drain to be fitted as it turns into a large lake in very wet weather, but this was to no avail as I heard nothing back. However, since Thames Water recently used the grass strip to drive diggers over and store excavated stones/mud (photo included at the start) from their 6 weeks of sewage pipe work at the house opposite, the water no longer clears on dry days unlike the rest of the street (2 photos included as evidence). This now means that persistent wet weather will only compound the longstanding issues and the tarmac will most definitely corrode at a rapid rate. Passing traffic has drenched the public traversing across the strip heading towards the local garage shop and this will now be a regular issue. Please can you investigate and consider adding a much needed drain here? Incidentally, Nettlestead Court are responsible for maintaining this grass strip and I passed on my concerns to the head crew during the sewage works as the grass took a beating and turned into a flattened mudscape. They did add some top soil with grass seeds and tried to restore the original banked sides when finishing up but if this doesn’t restore the grass strip back to its original state in Spring I will get back to you to request a fix, as we will not be responsible for this issue given that you granted Thames Water permission to use it during their works (permit no: MU113SA2915126-01 / REF: SA-2904606). Thank you and kind regards, 3 Nettlestead Court, Burford Road, Lechlade, GL7 3GF.

Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.
We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.
Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.
Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance
If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide
If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.
We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
