Drainage hole too small so blocking and overflowing
Reported via mobile in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 09:49, Saturday 31 January 2026
Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8806611.
The diversion drainage works carried out when culvet collapsed years ago was totally inadequate and it has blocked and flooded and pushed the man hole out every time there has been Substantial rain. This causes flooding all down the road, a major obstruction on the road as the manhole lifts and potential for houses to flood as the water backs up or finds alternative outlets A 9”pipe at T’d off at 90deg angle will not take the huge volume of water that comes down this pipe, it takes all the water off the farm fields and off the hill into this one drain. The original drain was suitable in size and direction, it just needed fixing properly. I have been manually unblocking it with my bare hands each time.

Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.
We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.
Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.
Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance
If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide
If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.
We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
