Signage that doesn't make sense and is unnecessary

Reported via desktop in the Signs, barriers or materials left by contractor category anonymously at 10:16, Sunday 11 January 2026

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8664967.

Please could someone explain the purpose of the highways signs that appeared in Hawser Road, Tewkesbury on Tuesday 6th January. 1. One random double-sided 20 mph marker has been installed. As there are no others, there is no indication of where the supposed speed restriction begins and ends. Presently it seems to effectively cover the width of the pole! There are no other 20mph markers in Hawser Road or in neighbouring roads. If a 20mph limit has been put in Hawser Road, why have residents not been consulted? 2. Priority vehicle signage There is a narrow section of road effectively acting as a traffic calmed area in Hawser Road. Over seven years since the estate was completed and occupied, the traffic calming area has functioned perfectly well without highways signs. It is very clear from the markings on the road who needs to give way to whom. It’s also worth pointing out that vehicle movements in the road are so few that instances where anyone would have to give way are near to none. Two large ‘priority vehicle’ signs were also installed on 6th January at this location (outside no 45). These large signs seem to offer nothing more other than to significantly impinge on the otherwise rural aspect of this area. Therefore I would urge the council to consider whether any of the signs mentioned above are necessary and consider removal of the signs as soon as possible. In times when budgets are tight, might I suggest that these signs are removed and used at a location elsewhere within the county where they are actually needed.
