Road surface water flooding property.

Reported via desktop in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 14:59, Thu 18 December 2025

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8565148.

Approximately six to eight weeks ago, I reported this issue and was advised that no further action was required on your part, and that resolution was my responsibility. Prior to the resurfacing of the road, our garden and driveway effectively managed rainwater, and we did not experience any flooding.

However, following the resurfacing work in 2024—during which the old road surface was not removed causing the road level to be elevated. This has resulted in two areas of uneven surface outside our property, contributing to flooding in both our garden and driveway during heavy rainfall.

Currently, the nearest drain is situated uphill from our property, while another is located further down the road but is inaccessible due to the presence of two raised sections in the roadway. I would appreciate it if your engineer could meet with me during their visit to discuss this matter further.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance

If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide

If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.

We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
