Any heavy or persistent rain causes drain cover to lift

Reported via mobile in the The drain is blocked category by Carl Binns at 22:50, Tuesday 4 November 2025

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8377442.

Junction of Highfield Road and Driffield Road, Lydney, very near postal box. Rain water washes down the pavement of the houses on Highfield Road, elderly residents have had to dig trenches down the grass verge. Water runs down Highfield Road through junction with Rodley Manor Way. This was reported about two years ago and I was told the relevant drain would be redirected so the water would drain the other way down Highfield Road. This doesn’t seem to have resolved the problem.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance

If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide

If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.

We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
