Severe flash flooding of highway in heavy rainfall
Reported via mobile in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 18:22, Thursday 30 October 2025
Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8358143.
I have marked an approximate location but the severe flash flooding occurs whenever there is heavy rainfall. The flood water crosses the whole of the highway and is particularly dangerous when it is dark and drivers are unfamiliar with the road. Many tourists drive along this road and it represents a real danger to life when it is there - particularly if a car travels in one direction and a tourist coach in the other. The car driver is temporarily blinded by the wave of water. The run off from the fields in this dip must surely already be known to the council.

Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.
We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.
Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.
Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance
If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide
If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.
We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
