Congestion at pinch point of road and increased pollution

Reported via mobile in the General road markings, lines and stud issues category anonymously at 23:50, Thursday 11 September 2025

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8154632.

Traffic persistently becomes blocked due to the pinch point on this narrow road. Horsefair Street needs to be a one way road to ease traffic, prevent road blocks, scratching and damage been done to parked cars and prevention of road rage. The current closure of the A40 is forcing unacceptable amounts of traffic down roads that were never intended for the volumes of vehicles including lorries (despite signage). A pedestrian today was ushered off the pavement so that a Tesla driver could mount the pavement to pass through the congested traffic. The roadblock that ensued around the church at 5:30pm today was just impossible, causing congestion, blockage for an ambulance that was trying to get through, increased air traffic pollution and impact on residents who no longer able to access their homes. This area is supposed to be a conservation area, yet it seems that this is no longer a consideration. The highways services must protect areas that are over 200yrs old and DO NOT have roads to support the acceptable volumes of traffic that now passes 24/7 every day in an around St. Mary’s. An accident or fatality will occur if no action is taken. Please do something now before it is too late!
