The drain is blocked problem

Email received 04/06/2025 - copy attached. Customer reports that, during rainfall, water flows consistently from the road into the location, leading to flooding. They ask if Highways can investigate, suggesting that a later of tarmac could resolve the issue.

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

    We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

    Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

    Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently.
