Multiple Blocked and Hidden Drains due to Overgrowth
Reported via desktop in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 11:50, Tuesday 3 June 2025
Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7655620.
As shown in the attached photo, the drain marked with a red circle corresponds to the one listed on the online mapping report. However, the other drain pictured — located on the opposite side of the carriageway — was completely overgrown and not identified on your map. I unearthed this drain myself today in an effort to stem the stream of water flowing down the road towards nearby properties.
The current state of the carriageway, which is clearly under-maintained, has led to multiple drains being totally blocked and hidden. As a result, the water flow exceeds the capacity of the visible drains outside the properties, especially during even a small amount of rainfall, such as that experienced on 3rd June 2025.
From a design and planning perspective, it seems highly likely there are additional drains hidden under the overgrown edges of the carriageway. I respectfully request that this be investigated as a matter of urgency, with consideration given to:
Clearing and inspecting the full width of the carriageway edges, Identifying and reinstating any hidden or buried drainage infrastructure, Updating the drainage mapping records to reflect what is actually in place.
Without intervention, the current flow rate during rainfall will continue to pose a risk to properties along this stretch of road.

Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.
We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.
Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.
Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance
If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide
If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.
We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
