Poor trench reinstatement works

Reported via desktop in the Other damage to pavement i.e. cobbles, raised mound/surface category anonymously at 10:12, Monday 12 May 2025

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7554961.

I am writing to formally raise concerns regarding the reinstatement works following the fibre optic cable installation at Sunnycroft Mews (Stroud Road end) for #1 Sunnycroft Mews on Friday, 9th May. The reinstatement of the pavement has been carried out to a poor standard and does not comply with GCC highways requirements. The key defects observed are as follows: - Incorrect surfacing material: The aggregate size in the surface course appears to be greater than 20mm, resembling a base binder layer rather than a proper surface course. - Insufficient compaction: The surface is uneven, with gaps and undulations due to improper material usage and inadequate compaction. - Loose kerbs: The kerbs have not been properly reinstated—they are not cemented in and remain loose. - Inadequate reinstatement of gully surrounds: The trench cut through the concrete gully surrounds has not been reinstated with concrete, risking further degradation. These issues raise serious concerns among residents, as defects such as potholes and structural failures will likely emerge if the works remain unaddressed. I believe Virgin Media subcontractors carried out these works, and I request urgent action to ensure that the site is revisited as soon as possible to bring the reinstatement up to the required standards.
