Drain is completely blocked and stream flows over the pavement during rain

Reported via mobile in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 17:10, Friday 25 October 2024

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6659181.

Drain at bottom of Wood Lane beneath the Wood Lane sign is completely blocked. I reported this on 6th September and was sent a link to a schedule for clearances - this drain was NOT cleared on the month assigned for Nailsworth. I suggest it is cleared along with the drain on the side of Tabram's Pitch, which is running even when there is no rain, and the drain on the Avening Road at the bottom of Wood Line, as they all suffer with the mud which comes down the hill from the fields above the recreation area. I normally clear the debris which collects on top of the drain at Wood Lane but there is no point my doing this until it is unblocked.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance

If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide

If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.

We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
