2 drains outside nos 14 & 16 Cotswold Gardens are flooding during every heavy downpour, putting properties at risk
Reported via mobile in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 15:27, Monday 14 October 2024
Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6613674.
Drains outside nos 14 & 16 Cotswold Gardens are quickly becoming overwhelmed in any heavy rain. Photo shows build up of flood water on October 8th which nearly reached the level we experienced in the more prolonged torrential rain on September 20th when my neighbour reported the flood water in Fix my Street. Although the road was swept between these 2 episodes, it's apparent that the drains are still blocked. We were promised that the mechanical drain clearer would come but that has not happened yet. The drain opposite the Baptist Church on Station Road is also blocked, completed silted over, as if it were tarmacked across. Other drains in Station Road have vegetation growing out of them. Because of the drains blocked in Station Road, Cotswold Gardens drains have to deal with all the water flowing down from Station Road too. Drains outside nos 14 & 16 are at the lowest point in the road, hence the build up of water there. There is no road drain between no 14 and no 2. We have been told by a former councillor that the main drain pipe down the road is only 4" diameter where it should be 9". Although the water has subsided within a few hours each time (September 20 & 23 and October 8th), it is putting elderly neighbours at risk and properties at risk of flooding. We are all very concerned that the next episode will do real damage

Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.
We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.
Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.
Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance
If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide
If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.
We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
