Campden Lane Flooding
Reported via desktop in the The drain is blocked category by Kevin O'Donoghue at 21:57, Sunday 22 September 2024
Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6501331.
The run offs on Campden Lane near clearing from the road to the ditch. We have elderly residents who have been doing their best - see complaint below. The water runs down the road which is Willersey Hill and if it can't run off because the grips are blocked it continues to the bottom where in the past it has flooded the houses. Please could this be treated as a matter of urgency; the recent heavy rains have got residents very agitated. Also the drains at the White House should have been jetted in the past months - please could you confirm this has been done. regards Kevin
Over the years, the grips that run across the wide northside verge have become totally overgrown, so the water cannot get down them and ends up running all the way down to the bottom of the hill, the lowest point being outside The White House, and the gulleys there cannot cope with the volume, especially when there is a large amount of debris coming down the road. On the south side bordering Willersey House, there are two run offs that were completely blocked by clods of earth and grass. I have also cleared those as we had biblical amounts of water coming down both sides The road floods and puts our house at risk. I simply cannot do this myself anymore and nor should I have to.

Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.
We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.
Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.
Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance
If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide
If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.
We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
