Blocked drains along this stretch of Bath Road from Mankley Road to the bend.

Reported via mobile in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 17:03, Thursday 5 September 2024

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6440730.

The drain on Bath Road on the corner of Mankley Road is blocked nearest house The Firs. Also the drain on Bath Road by Orchard View is collapsed. Both these drains are blocked or collapsed causing flooding across Bath Road during heavy storms. The main flooding occurs further along the road and the drain close to Rose Cottage is the only drain that takes away any water. This drain becomes blocked with debris and for the last six years I have been clearing it when flooding occurs. This flooding requires cars to drive on the other side of the carriageway towards a blind bend where oncoming traffic have to brake suddenly especially when the rain is torrential. Pedestrians (adults with children) heading or returning to the local Leonard Stanley School are also put at risk in these conditions. I hope you are able to consider this ongoing issue. Thank you.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance

If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide

If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.

We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
