Loose and noisy manhole cover on Station road, outside 1 Barnhay perimeter wall. Junction of Station Road/Pirton Lane (Churchdown)

Reported via desktop in the Loose/rattling cover/ironwork category anonymously at 12:24, Saturday 3 August 2024

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6311208.

Junction of Station Road/Pirton Lane (Churchdown). Although this has been reported before (over 1 year ago) and an attempted repair to the tarmac was made, it didn't cure the issue. Since the gas pipe upgrade, the noise from this item has increased to disturbing levels. The problem is the manhole cover itself is not sitting correctly in its frame. It is a diagonal split cover design, which can heard even when standing on it! When cars go over it, the noise is incredibly loud. The whole unit needs replacing! This is disturbing our family and visitors' sleep and enjoyment of the garden. The noise level and frequency of it is increasing daily and is affecting my personal mental health.

  • Thank you for your email. I note that the tarmac around the manhole has been very well repaired, but unfortunately the noise has not! As I said before, the fault is mainly with the manhole cover itself which, because of its split diagonal design, is not bedded down correctly and moves when traffic goes over it and still makes a loud noise.

Please replace or correctly bed the cover into a gasket to avoid this dreadful noise.

    Thank you, Richard Colley
