Overgrown sedge grass infested with ticks obstructing footpath in Guiting Wood
Reported via mobile in the Crops are blocking/growing on route category anonymously at 15:11, Saturday 22 June 2024
Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6140659.
The public footpath towards the southern boundary of Guiting Wood is obstructed by 6'4" sedge grass intertwined. The path, which is located in a trench, is infested with ticks as many landed on my trousers despite my great effort to avoid brushing past the vegetation. This is a major heath and safety hazard given that ticks can transmit Lyme disease and Encephalitis to humans when the bitten by these parasites. Halfway along the path, I reached a point where I had to turn back due to the long reed-like grass obstructing the path fully with a height way above 6ft. I dread to think what would have happened if I continued through given the number of ticks and can't imagine if someone shorter or a child decided to proceed further. I would encourage that this issue is attended to as quickly as possible as it poses a serious health risk to people.
