The main drain under the road is blocked.

Reported via mobile in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 13:41, Thursday 4 April 2024

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5806617.

At the entrance to the drive for Maytree Cottage / Studio Barn. The main drain under the road is almost completely blocked and can't cope during sustained rainfall. This causes the ditch to overflow across the road. Flooding occurs to around 40 cm causing danger to traffic and access problems to Maytree Cottage and Studio Barn. I think this has been investigated before and given the OK but the cause has not been fixed. The road has flooded here multiple times this Winter and will continue to to so until the culvert is fixed. The problem appears to be at the field end of the culvert / pipe under the road rather than the Maytree Cottage end.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance

If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide

If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.

We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
