Ash Tree located on Highway land problem

Reported via Open311 in the Ash Tree located on Highway land category by Gloucestershire County Council at 11:35, Thursday 25 January 2024

FixMyStreet ref: 5489717.

We are writing regarding two ash trees that abut our boundary wall on the Lower Swell Road and which have been diagnosed as having Ash Dieback. We approached Treetech Arboricultural Services Limited to carry out a tree report in 202, who made this assessment and also indicated that they would report this to Gloucestershire Highways saying that as the ash trees were suffering from dieback they needed to be removed.

The high winds recently have given us cause for concern as the movement of the trees has again dislodged our boundary stone wall, as they have done in the past, due to the close proximity of the ash trees and their roots, one of which is substantial (see last photos) and grows underneath the wall. Removing this root would undoubtedly cause the larger tree to fall across the road.

Highways closed part of the Lower Swell Road from 13 - 17 November 2023 (See Ref: 11435651) to remove all manner of trees deemed to be 'unsafe trees infested with Ash Dieback' but didn’t venture up as far as us. We would suggest that the two ash trees on our boundary are also unsafe and require removal.

We have attached photos to support this letter and would kindly request a response as to the way forward.

Kind regards
